The silken noose


Ties that hold us
forget who we are and what we've accomplished
they do not care for ribbons
they scoff at our trophies
they are as blind as any disease
ties that bind us
resist change and punish innovation
it's uncomfortable to live in newness
abhorrent to dwell in the light
it's an abomination to rightly believe
ties that bind and snag and kill
that's why i do not wear ties
